Philippines Still Considered 2nd World Country

Philippines as of 2018 is still a 2nd world country due to:

  • – Weaknesses in areas including nutrition
  • – Lack of proper education and literacy
  • – Have economic vulnerabilities
  • – Have widespread poverty

The Philippines is working toward being a 3rd world country and is currently considered a ‘developing country’.

This is largely due to some of the major corporations from Australia, the UK and America that have rolled in to provide jobs in call centers, tech support, admin and online services.

Baguio City Though, Is Pretty Nice

Baguio is classified as a Highly Urbanized City (HUC). It is geographically located within Benguet, serving as the provincial capital from 1901 to 1916, but has since been administered independently from the province following its conversion into a chartered city.

The city is a major center of business, commerce, and education in northern Luzon, as well as the location of the Cordillera Administrative Region.

In 1990 there was a major earthquake that destroyed much of the city, it also caused much of the population to leave for good. Since then strict building codes and inspections must be made for any building or construction in the city to ensure they are ‘landslide proof’.

According to the 2015 census, Baguio has a population of 345,366 and about 30% of the population are students due to the local schools and universities.
